True Living
Letters to Daughters #161
My Girls,
Do not fear failure, but rather fear the consequences of regret. To give up before trying is the birthplace of regret.
Accept that you will hear more "nos” in your life than "yeses.” Life is risk. There is no true living without risk. Risk is the exposure to the uncertainties in life.
By avoiding risk, it does not make them go away. Allow risk to teach you and get you closer to answering your life’s tough questions.
Often the important lessons in our lives are in our struggles and not in our triumphs, having fought well, rather than the specific position on the winner’s podium.
There is a lot of depth and enlightenment in pain. Life cannot be just joy and pleasure. A part of life’s array must include piercing sadness, tremendous loss, and excruciating pain.
When it is time for my last letter, I want you to know that I have fought for you and I have fought our family. I want you to know that I will always love you.
You will forever feel my hand on your heart.
Love,
Dad
